Legal Strengths Join Forces for Human Rights
National plaintiff litigation experts Shine Lawyers and well-known human rights lawyer and advocate George Newhouse have officially joined forces to fight for justice and human rights in Australia.
Shine has enlisted Newhouse as its ‘Special Counsel’ on human rights matters following the parties’ productive partnership which arose from legal consultation for those involved in the Christmas Island boat tragedy.
Executive Director Steve Roche said it was a key step forward for Shine in expanding the depth of its experience in litigation and ensuring it had the best team available to defend the rights of vulnerable clients.
“This is a major coup for Shine as we continue to expand our practice base and our ability to provide our clients with a range of legal expertise to ensure they get the best advice and support they need,” Mr Roche said.
“Shine has always prided itself on being ready and responsive to the various legal needs of people in our communities and having George on our team means we can become even stronger in fighting for those individuals.
Well-known across the country for his human rights work with refugees, Aboriginal Australians and former immigration detainees such as the Vivian Solon case receiving the largest award for wrongful detention and deportation, George Newhouse said he was thrilled to join the Shine team as Special Counsel on human rights.
“I’ve always had a good working relationship with Shine, collaborating on a range of cases over the years, I like the fact that they don’t shy away from tough cases” Mr Newhouse said.
“This agreement is the culmination of a number of successful projects and helps consolidate the collective decades of experience Shine and I share.”
“I look forward to bringing a different perspective to the job and working to deliver on Shine’s promise to fight for the underdog.”
